CELEBRATE BETTER HEARING AND SPEECH MONTH THIS MAY WITH SPEECHCENTER & THE AMERICAN SPEECH-LANGUAGE-HEARING ASSOCIATION
(TRIAD, NC – MAY 1-31, 2011) Since 1927, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has celebrated Better Hearing and Speech Month each May to raise public awareness of speech and language disorders that affect 14 million Americans. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national professional, scientific and credentialing association for more than 145,000 audiologists, speech-language pathologists and speech, language, and hearing scientists.
Speechcenter, Inc.’s staff clinicians are members of ASHA and thus hold their Certificate of Clinical Competence as well as their state licensure. Speechcenter, Inc. is a private practice, providing speech-language pathology services in Western and Central North Carolina since 1982 offices located in Winston-Salem and Boone, North Carolina. Speechcenter’s mission is to provide speech-language pathology services, of the highest possible quality, while at the same time delivering these services in a humanistic and ethical manner, at the lowest possible cost to any individual or agency in need of our services, with special consideration to the economically disadvantaged and medically underserved.
Speech and language disorders can take many forms and can limit academic achievement, social adjustment, social acceptance, and career advancement. A speech or language disorder can be developmental, or it may be caused by accidental injury or illness. Speechcenter is offering FREE SCREENINGS by appointment to all new patients from the month of May through the end of August in honor of Speech & Language Awareness. Speechcenter believes that through free screenings everyone will have the opportunity to identify and have the opportunity to arrange treatment. To schedule a free screening, please call (336) 725-0222 or (800) 323-3123.
“The ability to communicate well is a gift that many people take for granted. However, the inability to communicate is a life-altering disability. Thankfully, Speech-Language Pathologists are trained to provide these medically, necessary skilled services to children and adults to facilitate development of new skills or to retrain skills lost due to accident or injury,” said Jeri Bates, Chief Operating Officer of Speechcenter, Inc. “In most situations, effective means of communication can be achieved using a variety of skilled techniques and strategies delivered by the Speech-Language Pathologist.” Daniel Webster said it best: “If all my possessions were taken from me with one exception, I would choose to keep the power of communication, for by it I would soon regain all the rest”
Speech-language pathologists are the medical professionals who treat all types of speech, language, and related disorders. They have completed a master’s degree and hold license and certification issued by the state of North Carolina and the national association. Speech-language pathologists work in the natural environment, homes, schools, private practice, hospitals, clinics, and other health and education settings.
Since 1982, Speechcenter, Inc. is a private Speech-Language Therapy practice located at 185 Charlois Boulevard in Winston-Salem serving geriatric through pediatric patients with speech, language, swallowing, and feeding disorders in a wide array of facilities and in the natural environment.
